Pre Trip Planning
So how on earth did this all start?

Well back in January 2007 we decided that we should go on holiday somewhere big. Well bigger than our holiday last year.
We thought about Egypt and the Far East but we opted not to this year because of all the health problems that I have been recently having. So somewhere where good health care is a must. Well this could have been in Europe but just not far enough away. That is when I said always wanted to drive across the USA. After saying that the holiday was born.

After searching on the Internet we started to find good prices for the accommodation and the flights and the car. We did go into Dunfermline to see if the local travel agents could do something. Alas they could not, not in our price budget anyway.

So the flight was booked and so was the SUV. The accommodation was then booked shortly after and that laid down the route that we were going to follow.

Well in the middle of February it was agreed that maybe a website could be done to show what we get up to and stuff. And here it is.. roadtripus.net in all it's glory.
I designed the site to be totally as dynamic as possible to keep you guys kinda interested and stuff. For the technical people out there the site is built using free stuff. Eg, Linux, Apache and Mysql. This is because it is much cheaper than Microsoft and works better.

The site has taken a while to do because we have tried to follow HTML and CSS standards and not use Javascript. In fact the only place where it is not really standard is if there is a video on the site because of not being able to Javascript we have had to use RealPlayer. This was chosen because there is a version for almost every Operating System.

On the offsite side of things planning for the holiday has been quite straight forward. We only had a couple of setbacks. The holiday insurance took some finding but managed to get a very very good quote for the both of us and with my medical conditions. Lauren did destroy her passport so we had to order a new one, which looks a bit on the fuzzy side of things because of the way they have scanned it in.

So at the time of writing this page there is still quite a bit to do. Pack, sort, get money and sort out major stuff before we go. Oh and finish off bits of the website, so if things do not seem to be quite right on the site, it is because we just ran out of time.

Well take care and come back soon!!!!
